Mahr Inc. Surface Finish

Surface Metrology by Mahr covers roughness and contour measurement. Generally, these devices are based on the tactile stylus method. Thus, two dimensional profiles can be calculated and documented according to international standards.

The MarSurf M 310 – The new mobile roughness measuring instrument. We are used to accessing our data with our smartphone anytime and anywhere. Why shouldn’t this also be possible with a measuring device? With the new MarSurf M 310, Mahr offers you exactly that. A flexible mobile measuring device for recording and analysis of measured data. With its easy operation and robust design, the MarSurf M 310 is ideally suited for use in production environments by machinists generally not skilled in precision measurements.

Can be used:

  • On shafts, housing components, large machines
  • In automotive engineering
  • On large workpieces
  • On milled and turned parts
  • On ground and honed workpieces
  • At the production site for fast testing of roughness depth

The MarSurf M400 functions as a small measuring station as well as a mobile unit. Especially skidless tracing with the skidless probe BFW 250 and the drive unit SD 26 enable the measurement and evaluation of not only the roughness depth but also waviness and profile criteria. The magnetic probe arm holder allows different probe arms to be changed quickly and easily within seconds, without the use of tools. The motorized height adjustment enables automatic zero positioning and probe lifting. The Bluetooth function enables cable-free operation with this unit as well. Additionally, up to 250 measurements can be conducted with main-free operation due to the built-in battery.

Can be used:

  • On shafts, housing components, large machines
  • In automotive engineering
  • On large workpieces
  • On milled and turned parts
  • On ground and honed workpieces
  • At the production site for fast testing of roughness depth, waviness and profile parameter of the workpiece in or on the machine
  • Can also be expanded to a small measuring station in the workshop with the measuring stand

The MarSurf XCR20  is the new generation of combined roughness and contour measurement systems and is ideal for combining contour and roughness depth evaluation. The roughness software and contour software each have their own user interface. MarSurf XCR20 is Mahr’s top surface measurement system and enables even semi-automated operating sequences such as measuring stand positioning (ST 750 CNC) to be performed with ease.

  • Roughness and contour evaluations possible from a single measurement
  • High-precision contour and roughness evaluation with MarSurf LD 120 measuring system on components requiring a large stroke and very high resolution
  • Option of rapidly changing between roughness and contour measurements, realized through straightforward changeover within the software platform and changing of the mechanical components such as the drive unit and pick-up versions
  • Combi-measuring station with one measuring stand and two drive units (PCV 200 and MarSurf GD 25)
  • Combi-measuring station with quick-change mounts (PGK 120, PCV 200)
  • MarSurf LD 120 enables high-precision contour and roughness evaluation on components

The MarSurf XR1 combines mobile surface metrology with the advantages of a MarWin evaluation software. This means, for a roughness or waviness measurement, an all-in-one PC as well as the suitable drive unit suffice. Depending upon the customers’ needs, laptops or industrial PCs can also be implemented. Bluetooth technology offers a special degree of freedom and in addition to the cable connection between the drive unit and evaluation unit, the connection functions is also cable-free. The measurement can be comfortably activated by touchscreen or the respective drive unit and the data transferred to the computer. Corresponding to users’ measurement tasks, they can decide if you would like to configure the measuring station with skidded or skidless tracing.

Can be used:

  • On shafts, housing components, large machines
  • In automotive engineering
  • On large workpieces
  • On milled and turned parts
  • On ground and honed workpieces
  • At the production site for fast testing of roughness depth, waviness and profile parameter of the workpiece in or on the machine
  • Can also be expanded to a small measuring station in the workshop with the measuring stand

The PocketSurf I offers absolute mobility. And with increasing manufacturing and machine quality, the quality of products’ surface finishes is becoming ever more important. This makes it all the more crucial to offer metrology solutions with instrument designs that provide quick and simple measurement, yet comply with measuring standards. In some cases, measurements are transferred from the inspection room to production to save time and money. Components may be too large or heavy to be transported, leaving no alternative but to perform measurements directly on the component or machine. The PocketSurf 1 provides error-free operation thanks to an integrated roughness standard. There is a patented, automatic-cutoff selection so that even non-specialists are ensured correct measuring results. It also provides 24 parameters, offering the same range of functions as a laboratory instrument.

Can be used:

  • For on-site surface roughness measurement
  • For measurement in the production process
  • On processing machinery
  • For incoming goods inspection

The PocketSurf IV is an economically priced, pocket-sized, portable instrument which performs traceable surface roughness measurements on a wide variety of surfaces. It can be used confidently in production, on the shop floor and in the laboratory.

  • Solidly built, with a durable cast aluminum housing to provide years of accurate, reliable surface finish gaging
  • Can be used to measure any one of four switch-selectable parameters: Ra , Rmax/Ry, Rz
  • Selectable traverse length – 1, 3 or 5 cut-offs of 0.8 mm/.030 in.
  • Operates in any position – horizontal, vertical and inverted
  • Easy-to-read LCD readout presents the measured roughness value, in micro-inches or micrometers, within half a second after the surface is traversed
  • Out-of-range (high or low) and “battery low“ signals are displayed
  • Four switchable probe positions – axial (folded) or 90°, 180° or 270°
  • Difficult-to-reach surfaces such as inside and outside diameters are accessible
  • Integrated data output for SPC-processing units compatible with the most common data processing systems
